Binocular Reticles

Binoculars, also known as field glasses, consist of two refracting telescopes mounted side by side and aligned to focus in the same direction, enabling the user to view distant objects with both eyes simultaneously. Most binoculars are designed to be handheld, though their size can range from compact opera glasses to large, pedestal-mounted military instruments.

Unlike a monocular telescope, binoculars provide a three-dimensional viewing experience. Each eyepiece delivers a slightly different image to each eye, and this difference—known as parallax—allows the brain to perceive depth.

For many applications, particularly military and marine, these binoculars are fitted with a Reticle (or Graticule) which can be used for measurements and range finding. Binocular reticles are typically patterns of lines or markings within the eyepiece that serve as a visual reference.

Additionally, some more advanced binoculars with range finder or acquisition features incorporate prism reticles. These are much more complex than the normal reticles in that they have a mix of opaque and clear areas so that the pattern can be back illuminated for visibility at night.

Graticules Optics has over 60 years’ experience in producing high quality micro-pattern products for binocular applications.
All procedures at Graticules factories are accredited to ISO 9001 quality standards.
